July 16, 2018 - Sky Bryce, VA

Sunday morning, good flying weather, Lynnette and I were part of a gaggle flying to Sky Bryce, Virginia, for brunch.

Here we are passing by Baltimore, which is deserving of a picture on this day of excellent visibility.

From a distance, a picture of my friend Bill B.'s private airstrip near Woodstock, VA.

I have flown up/down the Shenandoah Valley many times but I had never even seen -- much less landed there -- Sky Bryce airport.  The reason:  it is on the western side of the ridge that borders the western edge of the Shenandoah Valley.  We crossed over the ridge, and there it was.

Sky Bryce airport is part of Bryce Resort which has some ski slopes, a golf course, a lodge, restaurant, and a bunch of other recreational things to do.  The runway a little hard to see but it is to the right of those buildings.  The golf course is to the right of the runway.  It all looks flat from the air, but the buildings, runway and golf course are in a little valley with hills on each side.

The runway runs north - south and the approach to land to the south was interesting!  Another RV, from Clearview, had landed just ahead of us.  The rest of the gaggle arrived a few minutes later.

It truly is a resort; lots of things to do here, even in summer.

Our group heads towards the restaurant.

Almost there!  Notice the little miniture golf course to the left.

There is the chair lift which was being used to take people up to the top with their mountain bikes!  There are some wooden ramps for the bikes to jump at lower middle.

We had a nice brunch, then it was back to the planes.

A couple of pilots based here greeted us when we landed.  Very friendly.  They put us on their email list for the quarterly fly-ins they have.

Proof that Lynnette flew with me today.

After takeoff, looking at Sky Bryce from the south.
